Electromagnetic Arcade Gantry
Sept 2022 - Dec 2022
The objective of the arcade gantry was to make an efficient solution for people to keep it in their houses and play whenever they wanted to without having to go out to a center to play. This was a more involving game than a board game and would also encourage people to get off their screens to play together.
The claw in the gantry was replaced with an electromagnet. The player has to pick the magnetic pieces from the set and place them in the set area.

Description
The size of the gantry is 2 x 2 x 2 feet. The structure is made up of square sections of wood lengths screwed and glued together to increase stability and make it rigid. There is a bar on the top which moves back and forth using a motor. The bar is placed by creating an indent and attaching wheels on the side. There is a second motor attached to the bar to drive the belt and achieve the left-to-right motion. A separate unit is attached to the belt which has a winch mechanism to drop and pick the electromagnet. This electromagnet works with 6V and has an iron core with copper wire wound around it.
Due to lower power, the electromagnet was only capable of lifting up to 5g instead of 20g as planned earlier.
